The Effectiveness of the United States Government (D.O.G.E) Is Being Sued More Than Ever
The Effective Government Order (DOGE) established by President Trump faces legal challenges from the National Security Counselors organization. DOGE is accused of violating the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) related to ensuring public participation in federal committees. According to The Intercept, DOGE is also being sued by the ethics watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics and the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen. Meanwhile, Politico reported that the Center for Biological Diversity, a non-profit member organization, has also filed a lawsuit against DOGE. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics appears to have filed a lawsuit along with several other organizations, including the American Public Health Association, the American Federation of Teachers, and the Minority Veterans of America. The lawsuit aims to declare the establishment of DOGE as illegal, requiring compliance with the FACA's transparency, ethics, and equal representation requirements. Organizations criticize DOGE for operating without control, not approved by Congress, and led by billionaires who do not represent the people. The Center for Biological Diversity also requests the Office of Management and Budget to provide records related to DOGE.
Leadership of DOGE In the presidential campaign, Trump proposed appointing Elon Musk to the Cabinet, and after winning the nomination, confirmed that Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy would lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). However, Ramaswamy left DOGE on Inauguration Day to focus on running for Governor of Ohio. DOGE, founded by Musk, aims to modernize the government and reduce costs by up to 2 trillion USD by 2026.
