Matt Hougan: 2026 will be the breakout year for Bitcoin

Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer at Bitwise, believes that the traditional four-year cryptocurrency cycle is no longer relevant.

Once considered a driving force behind Bitcoin's boom and bust cycles, Hougan stated that the influence of events like halving has significantly diminished.

According to him, the impact of halving decreases in strength with each cycle, making it less powerful over time. In contrast, broader structural changes – including institutional adoption, regulatory clarity, and the rise of cryptocurrency ETF funds – are shaping a new market dynamic.

He emphasized that:

Hougan believes that these deeper and longer-lasting trends will replace the old cycle, he stated that "2026 will be a good year," driven more by broader adoption than by the historical rhythm of cryptocurrencies.
