BCH technology update is imminent, but the infrastructure financing plan remains controversial.
BCH is about to undergo a technical update, and there are still disputes within the community regarding the infrastructure financing plan.
There is only one month left until the next technical update for Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and the code for the Infrastructure Funding Plan (IFP) still exists in the Bitcoin ABC codebase. This has raised concerns among community members, with many users asking on social platforms why the IFP code has not yet been removed and requesting a clear explanation from the development team.
In response to community concerns, the Bitcoin ABC team recently launched a BCH protocol development fundraising campaign. The campaign aims to raise 14,500 BCH (approximately $3.3 million) to support future development work. As of now, 43% of the fundraising goal has been completed, and the campaign will continue until April 30.
It is worth noting that there are only two weeks left after the fundraising campaign ends until the BCH update on May 15th. Whether the IFP is ultimately implemented will largely depend on the results of this fundraising campaign.
However, some users have expressed concerns about this. They question whether the development team will implement IFP as a last resort plan if the fundraising goal is not achieved by the end of the month. According to the business plan for the upcoming year released by the Bitcoin ABC team, if the fundraising plan fails, it may incentivize miners to implement IFP, which includes allocating a certain percentage of BCH block rewards to the development team.
The chief developer of a certain lightweight wallet expressed dissatisfaction with this statement. He believes that although the development team provided a response, it was not satisfactory. From the team's statement, it seems that they regard the IFP as a bargaining chip.
As early as February this year, Bitcoin ABC proposed to implement an infrastructure funding plan, suggesting that 12.5% of BCH block rewards be allocated to the development team to support ongoing development. This proposal sparked widespread controversy within the community. Subsequently, the ABC team reduced the proposed miner donation percentage to 5% and plans to implement the plan in the upcoming version 0.21.0.
As the technology update date approaches, discussions in the BCH community about the IFP continue. The methods of raising development funds and reaching community consensus will be key factors in determining the future direction of BCH.
