Trump signs resolution to block California's "2035 ban on new gasoline vehicle sales," changing the relationship with Musk due to electric vehicles.
Trump signs resolution to prevent California from banning the sale of gasoline-powered cars
According to reports, Trump has officially signed a resolution to prevent California from implementing the "2035 ban on the sale of new gasoline vehicles" plan. Last month, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to stop California from carrying out the resolution. In signing the resolution, Trump stated that California's idea of banning the sale of new gasoline vehicles is crazy and a disaster for the country.
California Governor Gavin Newsom of the Democratic Party announced in 2020 a plan to ban the sale of all new gas-powered cars in the state by 2035, while plug-in hybrid vehicles and used gas cars will still be available for sale. However, last month, the Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives voted to block California from implementing the measure.
Kentucky Congressman Brett Guthrie and Virginia Congressman Morgan Griffith stated: "The passage of these resolutions is a victory for the American people, as they will no longer be forced to purchase expensive electric vehicles due to California's unrealistic mandates. If California's exemption regulations are not abolished, it will lead to an increase in the prices of new and used cars, increase our dependence on China, and put pressure on our power grid."
Why did Trump and Musk argue? Various factors such as the Inflation Reduction Act and electric vehicles led to it.
The conflict between Trump and California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom goes beyond just this incident. The latest development is that Trump has dispatched troops to Los Angeles to address immigration protests, as well as issues related to tariffs, the rights of LGBTQ+ youth, and funding for electric vehicle charging stations.

Despite Trump's negative attitude towards electric vehicles, he still gave a good evaluation of Tesla under Musk. However, the two recently had a dispute over the Inflation Reduction Act, which was prompted by Trump's push for the Act, mentioning "phasing out electric vehicle purchase subsidies."
