News reports that the Filecoin Foundation and Lockheed Martin Space have announced the successful implementation of data transmission in space using a version of the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). The tests were conducted on a satellite in low Earth orbit. Marta Belcher, the chair of the Filecoin Foundation, stated that IPFS can effectively reduce latency in space data transmission by retrieving data from the nearest copies based on content addressing. Furthermore, IPFS's distributed architecture helps manage data corruption caused by radiation and ensures data integrity through encryption validation, which is crucial for data reliability in the space environment.
