Abstract generation in progress

Last month, another group of developers and students completed their study of Web3 in Lucerne, Switzerland. Gavin personally attended the graduation ceremony, bringing blessings and visions to everyone. At the same time, several JAM protocol implementation teams were also on-site to share their journey in JAM and their profound understanding of the JAM protocol with the graduates.

Whether you are a developer looking to join JAM or an ordinary user optimistic about JAM's future development, this article is worth reading and learning.

Content Summary:

  • Introduction of the JAM implementation team and the motivation to join JAM
  • JAM Development Status: 38 teams, 15 languages, no bosses, no commands
  • What are the medium- and short-term goals of JAM and the development team?
  • What will the migration path from Polkadot to JAM look like?
  • Feelings about JAM and future expectations
  • What impact does JAM have on the entire blockchain market?
  • The core application scenario of JAM is national-level infrastructure?

Introduction of the JAM Implementation Team

Tomek comes from Fluffy Labs, where they implement the JAM protocol using TypeScript, called Typeberry. Daniel works on the jamixir team, implementing JAM using the Elixir language. Maciej is on the Graymatter team, also building JAM implementations using Elixir. Alistair serves as the Chief Scientist at the Web3 Foundation, mainly supporting the design of JAM from a theoretical perspective. Kian is the project manager on the Graymatter team and participates in JAM development part-time.

Why join JAM development?

Tomek believes that JAM is a returning opportunity where accumulated experience can be utilized. Maciej is confident that JAM can bring new features that were previously unattainable. Alistair is attracted by JAM's data availability design. Daniel thinks that JAM is the best chance to realize the Web3 vision. Kian states that regardless of background, anyone willing to invest in learning and practice can become a part of promoting JAM.

Current Status of JAM Development

Currently, 38 teams have publicly participated, covering about 15 programming languages. The JAM reward program incentivizes developers from different backgrounds to independently implement the protocol around the Gray Paper. The JAM testnet is planned to launch this May, while the JAM Toaster supercomputing cluster will be built for large-scale stress testing.

The short and medium-term goals of JAM and the team

Tomek hopes to have a stable testnet running within a year. Their team's goal is to complete Milestone 2, followed by the development of a lightweight browser client. Daniel plans to stay in the JAM ecosystem for at least the next ten years. Maciej hopes to see preliminary results of ELVES running within a year. Alistair is concerned about what functions can be achieved in the first version of JAM.

Polkadot migration path to JAM

Parachains still have a place in JAM, and there will be service support for migration and operation. The specific migration plan is still under discussion. The basic idea is to first develop the Core Chain Service, which supports running parachains on JAM. The goal of Parity and Fellowship is to achieve seamless migration as much as possible.

Feelings about JAM and future expectations

Tomek believes that JAM has opened up many new possibilities. Daniel thinks that if we want to achieve true Web3, Polkadot and JAM are the only options. Alistair stated that JAM's abstract and generalized design can bring new opportunities. Maciej looks forward to JAM giving birth to new innovations.

Q&A session

Q: Is Polkadot leading in terms of decentralization? Are governments and institutions around the world ready?

Daniel believes that the core application scenario of JAM is as a national-level infrastructure, enabling countries to achieve technological sovereignty.

Q: How to participate in the JAM project?

You can read the gray paper, contact the existing team, or join the Element group. You can also form your own team to advance.

Q: What needs can JAM meet that Polkadot cannot achieve?

The Coreplay concept may be easier to implement on JAM. The overall JAM will make some functions more efficient.

Q: What impact does JAM have on the blockchain market? Will it become a standard?

Developers believe that JAM has the potential to become an industry standard, covering different market segments and user groups.

Q: How many stages are there in the development of JAM? How many teams are aiming for the final product?

The JAM development is divided into 5 stages, from basic functionality to production-level performance. Currently, about 20-25 teams are active, and there may be 8 mature implementation versions.
